Maruti Suzuki YTB set to go on sale in early 2023 after world debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) was caught testing a brand new SUV a few days ago. Internally codenamed YTB, it appears to be the long-rumored SUV coupe based on the Baleno premium sedan’s Heartect platform. It is expected to go on sale early next year following its global debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January.

The Maruti Suzuki YTB or Baleno Cross is expected to feature premium features like its hatchback sibling and it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the recently launched new Brezza. Its design seems influenced by the Futuro-e concept shown at Auto Expo 2020 – mainly the roofline, but the front fascia bears resemblances to the mid-size Grand Vitara SUV which will arrive next month.

For example, the design of the headlights and the LED daytime running lights are similar to those of the Grand Vitara, while the slightly square wheel arches, the clamshell bonnet structure, the sloping front windscreen, the air intake wider on the bumper etc. add to the SUV-like character. . The Baleno Cross will sit above the Baleno and will be retailed through Nexa dealerships.

A Toyota version is also expected to appear next year and, interestingly, the Yaris Cross was also tested recently. On the performance side, the Maruti Suzuki YTB could be equipped with a turbocharged BoosterJet petrol engine. It should be noted that the Baleno previously featured the 1.0-litre BoosterJet three-cylinder petrol engine in its RS version.

The powertrain should give a sporty character to the next coupe SUV. It is not yet known whether the 1.5-liter four-cylinder K15C mild-hybrid gasoline engine will be offered in this model or not. The ubiquitous powertrain is mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed AT torque converter on Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza.

The equipment list will likely include a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, steering wheel controls, 360-degree camera system, head-up display, automatic climate control system, cruise control, engine start/stop. button, adjustable head restraints, six airbags in the top variants and electric sunroof.
